So. Many. Things.

A jiujiteira? Yes! A woman who practices Brazilian jiujitsu. ‘Tis I.

Many people know me as such, but so many more people know me as other things.

A super nerd. An engineer. An extreme introvert. An entrepreneur. A graduate student. A health freak (a little extreme but okay). A super athletic being. A foodie. A friend. A goofball. Their favorite person ever. I’m really super dope but I’ll try not to bore you too much. You’ll find out more as we go don’t worry:)

Hello friends! My name is Jelisa and I am the all of the things that I just described. I’m 24 years old and I currently live in Baltimore, MD, where I attend Johns Hopkins University for my master’s degree. I previously attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN for my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering. I’m starting multiple business here of which I’ll probably talk about in other posts (one which will be extremely special). I love all things superhero and all things science! The Flash (CW on Tuesday I’m in), The Avengers, X-Men, The Defenders, physiology, psychology, chemistry, biology, all of it. My love for food should have its own post(s) so I’ll wait lol. Now that I’ve divulged my right brain…

img_0134THE JIUJITSU AND JUDO. My bread and butter. What I do everyday and what I hope to do as a job for the rest of my life. So I started doing martial arts when I was in the 3rd grade…let me be honest. My mom had me do karate in elementary school to keep me active and so I would be tired when I got home lol. I didn’t start taking my abilities in jiujitsu and judo seriously until last year actually. When I graduated from undergrad I got a job in a small city called Murfreesboro, TN and that is where my love for jiujitsu was born. The city (low and behold) had a UFC gym and about a year there training Muay Thai, kickboxing, boxing, and taekwondo, we got a Brazilian jiujitsu instructor. It was love at first roll (Shout out to all of my loves in Murfreesboro!). I was already at the gym for at least 3 hours a day. 3 days a week, 4 hours a week had turned into full jiujitsu and strength days. I trained in Murfreesboro under Professor Gabriel (Checkmat) for about 3 months before I moved to Baltimore, MD. A throwback of my team at an AGF competition in Columbus, GAΒ πŸ€™πŸΎβ€οΈ.

img_0132I now train at Lloyd Irvin Martial Arts Academy in Temple Hills, MD. Every day for 4 hours a day. Call me crazy. No, call me a beast. Actually, call me champion. I haven’t even hit hit full crazy yet. Here is where I was hit with Judo. We were told that we had an instructor coming who was a bronze medalist in the Olympics. Apprehensive or not, who passes that up?! It was pretty slow at first. I was so nervous about starting judo because I wanted to be good at it (like everything I do) but I also didn’t want to be thrown. I had been training for 2 month before my moves started to really started to mesh. Once my techniques started becoming seamless and lightning fast, it was a fajita! I was all in! Judo 3 times a week, 2 hours each practice, in addition to the jiujitsu that was already taking over my mind. The addiction to judo just fueled my goal: to become a black belt and professional athlete as well as a world champion. There is no way that I won’t hit that goal. My coaches Master Lloyd and Sensei Nyamochir are with me 100% every session. You’re looking at (aka reading from) that early makings of a legend!…I just gave myself a lot but speak it into existence you know lol. Post judo practice picture πŸ’ͺ🏾.

I’ve been saying I wanted to start a blog forever but I’ve always procrastinated it πŸ™‚ I’ll be sharing my jiujitsu journey, my judo journey, any new food recipes/endeavors, and just general life/nerd stuff that I think is cool. Maybe reviews on things too. I can’t wait to share different points in my journey to my black belt. It’s always fun when you find another jiujiteira to share stories with!

P.S. I’ll also be posting a [theme] song for every blog post. Let’s start with the classic song that inspired the blog title: Picture Me Rollin’ – Tupac [] (listen at your own discretion)

(haha, Picture Me Rollin’, get it?)
